Abstract: This study investigates the impact of adult education on substance abuse prevention, focusing on how educational programs designed for adults contribute to reducing substance abuse rates. The objectives were to assess the effectiveness of adult education in increasing awareness about substance abuse, to evaluate the role of these programs in changing attitudes towards substance use, and to identify the challenges faced in implementing substance abuse education for adults. A survey research design was employed to gather data from participants enrolled in various adult education programs, providing comprehensive insights into their experiences and perceptions. A sample size of 300 adult learners was selected for robust analysis. The purposive sampling technique was used to target individuals actively participating in community-based adult education initiatives related to substance abuse prevention. The case study was conducted in Lagos, Nigeria, a city with diverse cultural and social backgrounds. Findings indicated that adult education significantly enhanced awareness and understanding of substance abuse, leading to more informed decisions and reduced substance use among participants. However, challenges such as stigma and limited resources were identified. The study recommended increasing investment in adult education programs focused on substance abuse prevention and promoting community engagement activities to strengthen the impact of these initiatives.
