Abstract: This research addresses the impact of economic recession on adult education funding. The objective of this study was to investigate how economic downturns affect the allocation and availability of funds for adult education programs. The specific objectives were to assess the reduction in funding during economic recessions, to analyze the impact of reduced funding on program effectiveness, and to identify coping strategies employed by educational institutions. A survey research design was employed to collect data from educational institutions and funding bodies, which was effective in gathering quantitative data on funding trends. A sample size of 200 respondents from various educational institutions was chosen to ensure a broad perspective. Purposive sampling was used to select institutions directly affected by economic fluctuations. The case study centered on funding challenges faced by adult education programs in Abuja, Nigeria. Findings revealed that economic recessions led to significant reductions in funding, which adversely impacted program quality and accessibility. Recommendations included advocating for more resilient funding mechanisms and exploring alternative funding sources to mitigate the effects of economic downturns.
