Abstract: The impact of adult literacy programs on rural development is a critical area of study in understanding the socio-economic advancements within rural communities. The objective of this research was to (1) assess the effectiveness of adult literacy programs in enhancing the quality of life in rural areas, (2) examine the role of these programs in promoting economic activities, and (3) evaluate the overall contribution of literacy to social cohesion and community development. This study employed a survey research design to gather data from participants actively involved in adult literacy programs. A sample size of 200 individuals was selected using purposive sampling to ensure that only those directly impacted by these programs were included. The case study focused on rural communities in Ogun State. The findings revealed that adult literacy programs significantly improved participants' ability to engage in productive economic activities, enhanced their social interactions, and contributed to the overall development of the community. It was recommended that further investments and support be given to expand these programs, ensuring broader access and sustainability.
