ABSTRACT

THE ROLE OF RISK MANAGEMENT IN INVESTMENT DECISIONS

This study investigates the role of risk management in investment decisions, focusing on: (1) the impact of risk management practices on investment outcomes; (2) the strategies for effective risk management; (3) the challenges in integrating risk management with investment decisions. A survey design is justified for this study to gather broad quantitative data. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 320 respondents from Abuja is selected, encompassing various investment sectors. A hedge fund is chosen as the case study due to its sophisticated risk management practices. The reliability coefficient score for the survey instrument is 0.88. Findings reveal that robust risk management practices, such as diversification, hedging, and scenario analysis, significantly enhance investment performance. However, challenges include the complexity of risk assessment and the unpredictability of market conditions. It is recommended that investors develop comprehensive risk management frameworks, employ advanced analytical tools, and continuously review their risk management strategies.
