ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to assess the effect of covid19 on tourism in Nigeria, using Obudu Mountain Resort, Agbokim Waterfall, Tinapa Business & Leisure Resort in Cross Rivers State as a case study. Specifically, was aimed at finding out how covid-19 has affected the tourism sector, and how much of it has affected social and economic activities. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 30 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that the effects of covid 19 on the tourism sector is that it reduced number of travelers to resort centres, the travel restriction limited the number of foreigners that visit resort centres, loss of revenue, and drop in ticket sales and reservations for international routes. The findings also revealed that the different social and economic activities that were affected by covid-19 is that; it reduced number of tourists that visit us, it led to staff turn-over, it led to low patronage, and it increased unemployment rate. The study therefore recommended that the Nigerian government need to undertake economic diversification drive. It is one practicable way to saddle through the current economic uncertainties and instabilities by opening up new opportunities in other sectors especially the tourism sector.
