THE INFLUENCE OF PARTICIPATORY BUDGETING ON EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT
The objectives of this research are to: (1) investigate the impact of participatory budgeting on employee engagement, (2) identify the key benefits of involving employees in the budgeting process, and (3) assess the challenges associated with participatory budgeting. A survey design was chosen to gather insights from employees and managers across various departments. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 377 participants from corporate organizations in Abuja was determined, ensuring comprehensive insights. The corporate sector was chosen for its structured organizational processes and potential for participatory budgeting. The reliability coefficient score of the survey was 0.87. Findings indicate that participatory budgeting significantly enhances employee engagement by involving employees in financial decision-making, leading to increased motivation, job satisfaction, and commitment to organizational goals. Recommendations include fostering a culture of inclusivity in budgeting processes, providing training on participatory budgeting techniques, and continuously involving employees in financial planning to enhance engagement.
