THE ROLE OF ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING (ERP) SYSTEMS IN BUSINESS OPERATIONS
Abstract: This study aimed to explore the role of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in enhancing business operations within organizations. The objectives were to investigate how ERP systems integrate business processes, improve resource allocation, and enhance operational efficiency. A survey research design was chosen to gather quantitative data from a sample of 300 respondents, selected using the Taro Yamane formula to ensure representation across industries with ERP implementations. The study focused on a case study of a manufacturing company in Sokoto, known for its comprehensive ERP system deployment across production, procurement, and inventory management functions. Conducted in Sokoto, the reliability coefficient score was determined to be 0.86, indicating strong internal consistency in survey responses. The findings revealed that ERP systems streamline operations, reduce operational costs, and improve data accuracy, leading to enhanced overall business performance. The study recommends that organizations invest in scalable ERP solutions, align ERP implementations with strategic goals, and provide comprehensive training to employees to maximize system benefits and achieve sustained business growth.
