THE INFLUENCE OF BIG DATA ANALYTICS ON INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the influence of big data analytics on information systems within organizations. The objectives were to analyze how big data analytics improve data-driven decision-making, enhance predictive analytics capabilities, and facilitate business intelligence insights. A survey research design was chosen to gather quantitative data from a sample of 280 respondents, selected using the Taro Yamane formula to ensure representation across sectors heavily reliant on data analytics. The study focused on a case study of a telecommunications company in Enugu, known for its advanced use of big data for customer segmentation and network optimization. Conducted in Enugu, the reliability coefficient score was determined to be 0.90, indicating strong internal consistency in survey responses. The findings revealed that big data analytics significantly enhance information systems by enabling real-time insights, improving operational efficiency, and supporting strategic decision-making processes. The study recommends that organizations invest in big data infrastructure, leverage analytics tools for actionable insights, and foster a data-driven culture to capitalize on opportunities for growth and innovation.
