THE IMPACT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS ON ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the impact of information systems on organizational performance. The objectives were to assess how information systems enhance operational efficiency, improve decision-making processes, and foster competitive advantage within organizations. A survey research design was employed because it allows for collecting quantitative data from a large sample size to generalize findings across different organizational contexts. A total of 300 respondents were selected using the Taro Yamane formula, ensuring a representative sample. The study focused on a case study of a manufacturing firm, chosen for its complex operational needs and reliance on integrated information systems. Conducted in Lagos, the reliability coefficient score was calculated at 0.85, indicating high internal consistency among survey items. The findings revealed a significant positive correlation between effective information systems implementation and enhanced organizational performance metrics such as productivity, profitability, and customer satisfaction. The study recommends that organizations invest in robust information systems infrastructures, integrate data-driven decision-making processes, and continuously upgrade technology to sustain competitive advantages in dynamic market environments.
