ABSTRACT: THE IMPACT OF MARKET VOLATILITY ON THE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT

This research aims to: 1) assess the effects of market volatility on business performance; 2) analyze the strategies businesses use to manage financial risks during market fluctuations; and 3) evaluate the long-term implications for business stability. A survey research design is adopted to gather insights into market volatility impacts. Using Taro Yamane’s formula, a sample size of 340 businesses, including financial analysts and risk managers, is determined. Lagos, with its dynamic market environment, is selected as the location. The survey instruments achieve a reliability coefficient score of 0.87. Findings reveal that market volatility increases financial risks, affects investor confidence, and influences strategic decision-making in businesses. Companies implement risk management strategies, diversify investments, and monitor market indicators to mitigate volatility impacts. The study recommends that businesses develop robust contingency plans, leverage financial instruments for hedging, and maintain agility in responding to market fluctuations to enhance business resilience and sustain growth.
