Abstract:
The objectives of this research are to (1) explore the impact of strategic mergers and acquisitions (M&A) on achieving competitive advantage, (2) identify the key success factors in M&A processes, and (3) assess the long-term benefits of M&A on business growth. A survey research design was employed to gather data from a broad respondent base. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 370 respondents was selected to ensure statistical significance. The study was conducted in the banking sector in Lagos, Nigeria, known for its M&A activities. The reliability coefficient score of the survey was 0.88. The findings indicate that strategic M&A significantly contribute to competitive advantage by providing access to new markets, enhancing operational efficiencies, and driving innovation. Recommendations include developing comprehensive M&A strategies, conducting thorough due diligence, and focusing on post-merger integration to maximize the benefits of M&A.
