Abstract: THE IMPACT OF FINANCIAL PLANNING ON BUSINESS GROWTH
The objective of this research is to evaluate the influence of strategic financial planning on the growth trajectories of businesses. It aims to identify key financial planning practices that drive business expansion, understand the relationship between financial planning and business performance, and assess the challenges businesses face in implementing effective financial plans. This study employs a survey research design, justified by its ability to capture a wide range of data from business owners and financial managers regarding their planning practices and growth outcomes. The sample size, derived using Taro Yamane's formula, includes 400 respondents to ensure a representative sample of businesses in Lagos, Nigeria. The case study focuses on small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the retail sector, given their significant contribution to economic growth. A reliability coefficient score of 0.85 was achieved, indicating high reliability of the survey instrument. Findings reveal that comprehensive financial planning significantly correlates with business growth, with particular emphasis on budgeting, forecasting, and investment planning. It is recommended that businesses adopt detailed financial planning frameworks and seek professional financial advice to optimize growth potential.
