ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of excessive ritual themes in Nigeria home videos using Benin city, Edo State. To extensively achieve the envisioned result, the study w further narrow down to the influence of excessive ritual themes in Nigeria home videos on viewers’ perception towards wealth creation, the influence of excessive ritual themes in Nigeria home videos on viewers’ interest in ritual activities, and the relationship between excessive ritual themes in Nigeria home videos and upsurge in ritual practices in Nigeria The research design adopted for this study is the survey method in data collection. It is used to obtain the peoples opinion through the questionnaire. The sampling technique adopted for this research is conveniently sampling technique. A researchers conveniently selected 150 respondent who are residents of Benin city, Edo State were drawn as the sample size for the study. Self- structure questionnaire was issued to the respondent of which one were retrieved and validated for the study. Data was analyzed using simple percentage in frequencies and tables in accordance with the research questions. Hypothesis was tested using Chi-Square statistical package for social science. Findings of the study reveals that excessive ritual themes in Nigeria home videos influences viewers perception towards wealth creation; excessive ritual themes in Nigeria home videos does influences viewers interest in ritual activities and there exist significant relationship between excessive ritual themes in Nigeria home videos and upsurge in ritual practices in Nigeria.The study therefore recommended that there is a need for film producers to censor the overemphasis of certain cultural themes as these may somewhat be at the detriment of film audience and their perception of reality. More so, Government, Civil Societies and various Non-governmental organizations should identify ritual killing as a harmful tradition in its programs and campaigns should be carried out to expose the ignorance, superstition and rationale underlie the belief and practice of ritual killing in Nigeria.
