ABSTRACT
This study investigates the knowledge of prostate cancer among adult men aged 40 years and above in Umuahiriogwu village, focusing on perceived barriers to accessing healthcare services and information related to prostate cancer. The study specifically concentrates on the perceived obstacles that impede access to healthcare services and information pertaining to prostate cancer. The study aims to evaluate the extent of awareness regarding prostate cancer, identify obstacles perceived in accessing healthcare, and propose suggestions to enhance awareness and access. The study utilised a survey research design, employing a judgmental sampling technique to pick 100 respondents from the target demographic. A systematic questionnaire was designed using pertinent literature and theoretical frameworks, encompassing demographic data, knowledge about prostate cancer, perceived obstacles, availability of healthcare services, and sources of information. Data was gathered via self-administered surveys, guaranteeing adherence to ethical principles and maintaining confidentiality. The results unveiled diverse degrees of awareness of prostate cancer among the participants, with significant obstacles including insufficient knowledge about symptoms and risk factors, financial limitations, language and cultural differences, and limited access to healthcare facilities and specialists. Suggested measures encompass the creation of focused educational initiatives, implementation of financial assistance programmes, provision of language services, enhancement of healthcare infrastructure, and promotion of community involvement. This study provides significant information on the awareness of prostate cancer and access to healthcare. It emphasises the need for specific initiatives to overcome obstacles and improve knowledge among the intended audience.
