Background of the Study:
School library automation involves the use of computerized systems to manage library operations, including cataloguing, circulation, and resource tracking. In Argungu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, automation has the potential to significantly enhance service delivery by improving efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility of library resources (Olayinka, 2023). Automated systems enable users to search for materials electronically, access digital collections, and streamline borrowing processes. This technological integration is crucial for maintaining up-to-date information management and supporting both teaching and research activities. However, issues such as high initial investment costs, technical challenges, and limited staff training may impede the successful implementation of automation (Aminu, 2024). This study evaluates the impact of library automation on service delivery, assessing factors such as user satisfaction, turnaround time for material retrieval, and overall operational efficiency, with the objective of identifying areas for further improvement (Ibrahim, 2025).
Statement of the Problem:
Many libraries in Argungu struggle with challenges in fully implementing automation due to financial constraints, technical difficulties, and inadequate training, which negatively affect service delivery and user satisfaction (Usman, 2025).
Objectives of the Study:
To evaluate the current state of library automation.
To assess its impact on service delivery.
To recommend strategies for improved automation implementation.
Research Questions:
How does automation affect library service delivery?
What technical and financial challenges are encountered?
What measures can enhance the automation process?
Significance of the Study:
This study is significant as it provides insights into the benefits and challenges of library automation, guiding improvements that enhance resource accessibility and operational efficiency, ultimately improving academic support in Argungu. (Chinwe, 2023)
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
The study is limited to secondary schools in Argungu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, focusing exclusively on the effects of automation on library service delivery.
Definitions of Terms:
Library Automation: The computerized management of library functions.
Service Delivery: The effectiveness and efficiency of library operations.
User Satisfaction: The level of contentment among library users.
