Background of the Study:
Soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, are increasingly critical for employability in today’s dynamic job market. School libraries have broadened their service scope to include soft skills training through workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions. In Doma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, these programs aim to develop practical skills that complement academic knowledge and enhance students’ readiness for the workforce (Olayinka, 2023). Library-based training sessions utilize multimedia resources, role-playing activities, and group projects to simulate real-world challenges and foster interpersonal skills. However, issues such as limited program frequency, insufficient trained facilitators, and lack of industry collaboration may reduce the overall impact of these training sessions (Aminu, 2024). This study appraises the effectiveness of library-based soft skills training on students’ employability, exploring how these initiatives contribute to developing competencies that meet labor market demands, and suggesting improvements to optimize program delivery (Ibrahim, 2025).
Statement of the Problem:
In Doma, soft skills training provided through school libraries remains inconsistent and underutilized, limiting its positive impact on student employability. The lack of regular programming and insufficient facilitator expertise are key challenges that need to be addressed (Usman, 2025).
Objectives of the Study:
To evaluate the effectiveness of soft skills training programs.
To identify factors that reduce training impact.
To recommend strategies for improving employability outcomes.
Research Questions:
How effective are soft skills training sessions in improving employability?
What challenges affect the quality of training?
What measures can enhance the impact of these programs?
Significance of the Study:
The study is significant as it demonstrates the role of soft skills training in enhancing employability among students. Improved training initiatives can lead to better job readiness and overall career success, guiding educational policymakers in resource allocation. (Chinwe, 2023)
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
The study is limited to secondary schools in Doma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, focusing solely on library-based soft skills training and its impact on employability, excluding other forms of vocational education.
Definitions of Terms:
Soft Skills: Interpersonal and communication skills critical for workplace success.
Employability: The readiness and ability of a student to gain employment.
Training Programs: Structured sessions designed to improve specific skills.
