ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the influence of parental social class on the academic performance of pupils in Mbo local government area of Akwa Ibom State. Specifically, the study examined six (6) primary schools in Mbo local government area. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 120 responses were validated from the survey. The study adopted the Parental Attachment Theory, Self-Determination Theory, and Maslow’s Motivational Theory. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that Parental social class do not influence academic performance. Furthermore, the home environment do not develop children educational performance. The study recommend Illiterate parents should be encouraged to go to school in that their literacy will enhance their children’s academic. More so, there should be committees consisted on educated persons to guide those students whose parents cannot provide them a guide line in the educational problems.
