Background of the study
Architecture education demands a deep understanding of spatial relationships and design principles, which can be challenging to convey through traditional two-dimensional methods. At Ahmadu Bello University, 3D visualization has emerged as a transformative tool for enhancing architectural education by providing immersive, three-dimensional representations of design concepts. Through advanced computer graphics and modeling software, 3D visualization enables students to interact with virtual models of buildings, landscapes, and urban environments, thereby gaining a more comprehensive understanding of architectural form and function (Chinaza, 2023). This technology facilitates interactive learning, allowing students to experiment with design elements, evaluate structural integrity, and visualize the impact of their design choices in a simulated environment. The integration of 3D visualization into the curriculum supports collaborative learning and peer review, as students can easily share and discuss their models in a virtual space. Moreover, the use of 3D visualization prepares students for professional practice by familiarizing them with industry-standard tools and techniques (Ibrahim, 2024). Despite its numerous advantages, the implementation of 3D visualization in architecture education faces challenges, including high software and hardware costs, a steep learning curve for both students and instructors, and the need for technical support. This study aims to investigate the role of 3D visualization in enhancing architectural education at Ahmadu Bello University, evaluating its impact on student engagement, design quality, and overall learning outcomes, and identifying strategies to overcome existing barriers (Adeola, 2023).

Statement of the problem
Traditional teaching methods in architecture at Ahmadu Bello University primarily rely on 2D drawings and physical models, which often fail to fully convey the complex spatial dynamics of modern architectural designs. This limitation hampers students' ability to visualize and interact with design concepts, leading to a gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Although 3D visualization tools have the potential to bridge this gap by offering immersive and interactive learning experiences, their adoption in the curriculum is hindered by several factors. High costs associated with 3D modeling software and necessary hardware, along with insufficient training for both students and faculty, pose significant challenges. Moreover, technical issues such as rendering delays and compatibility with existing design tools further impede the seamless integration of 3D visualization into classroom instruction. These challenges result in an educational environment where students may not be fully prepared for professional architectural practice, ultimately affecting their creativity and design capabilities. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of 3D visualization in architecture education, identify the key obstacles to its implementation, and propose strategies for optimizing its use in a resource-constrained academic setting. By addressing these issues, the research aims to enhance the overall quality of architectural education at Ahmadu Bello University and ensure that graduates are well-equipped with the necessary skills to excel in the modern design industry (Chinaza, 2023; Ibrahim, 2024).

Objectives of the study

  1. To evaluate the impact of 3D visualization on architectural learning outcomes.

  2. To identify challenges in implementing 3D visualization in the curriculum.

  3. To propose strategies to optimize the integration of 3D visualization in architecture education.

Research questions

  1. How does 3D visualization enhance the understanding of spatial design in architecture?

  2. What are the main technical and operational challenges in adopting 3D visualization tools?

  3. How can training and resource allocation be improved to support 3D visualization in architecture education?

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it examines the role of 3D visualization in transforming architecture education at Ahmadu Bello University. The findings will inform educators and administrators on best practices for integrating immersive visualization techniques, ultimately enhancing student design skills, creativity, and preparedness for professional practice (Adeola, 2023; Ibrahim, 2024).

Scope and limitations of the study
The study is limited to the application of 3D visualization in architecture education at Ahmadu Bello University. Limitations include high software costs, technical skill requirements, and integration issues with existing curricula.
