Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and early risk assessment is crucial in preventing complications. Nurse-led cardiovascular risk assessment clinics have gained prominence as effective interventions in detecting early signs of heart disease and guiding patients toward preventive measures. These clinics focus on identifying risk factors such as hypertension, obesity, smoking, and diabetes while providing lifestyle modification counseling and early referrals.
In Ogun State, where CVDs are on the rise, nurse-led cardiovascular risk assessment clinics have been established to enhance early detection and preventive care. Nurses play a critical role in conducting screenings, educating patients, and promoting adherence to treatment plans. However, the effectiveness of these clinics in reducing cardiovascular risks and improving patient outcomes has not been extensively studied.
Evaluating the effectiveness of these nurse-led clinics will provide insights into their impact on cardiovascular health, identify challenges, and offer recommendations for improvement. This research is particularly relevant for strengthening primary healthcare and preventive cardiology in Ogun State.
Despite the increasing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in Nigeria, many individuals remain unaware of their risk status due to inadequate screening and health education. Traditional healthcare models often focus on treatment rather than prevention, leading to late-stage disease diagnosis and higher healthcare costs.
Nurse-led cardiovascular risk assessment clinics aim to bridge this gap by offering accessible, community-based screening and preventive care. However, the effectiveness of these clinics in Ogun State remains largely undocumented. Challenges such as limited resources, patient compliance issues, and inadequate follow-up mechanisms may affect their impact. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of nurse-led cardiovascular risk assessment clinics in Ogun State and identify areas for improvement.
This study will focus on nurse-led cardiovascular risk assessment clinics in Ogun State, assessing their effectiveness in detecting CVD risks and influencing patient behavior. It will also identify challenges faced by these clinics. Limitations may include variations in patient adherence to recommendations and differences in clinic accessibility across different areas.
