Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
In regions affected by insurgency, like Damboa LGA in Borno State, ex-militants often face significant challenges reintegrating into society. Following years of conflict with insurgent groups like Boko Haram, former militants face stigmatization, mistrust, and limited access to resources as they attempt to return to civilian life. This study will evaluate the reintegration challenges faced by ex-militants in Damboa, including the role of government programs, community responses, and security concerns.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to reintegrate ex-militants through government amnesty programs and deradicalization initiatives, the reintegration process remains fraught with challenges in Damboa. These include social exclusion, economic hardship, and the continued threat of violence from insurgent groups. This study aims to investigate the factors hindering successful reintegration and to assess the effectiveness of existing reintegration programs.
