Background of the Study
Press freedom is a cornerstone of democracy, as it enables the media to perform its role as the "fourth estate," providing citizens with the information necessary for informed decision-making. In Bauchi Local Government Area, Bauchi State, the extent of press freedom significantly influences the functioning of democratic institutions and the overall democratic process. The media in Bauchi, much like in other regions, is expected to scrutinize government actions, expose corruption, promote transparency, and foster public debate.
