Background of the Study
Television campaigns have become a vital communication tool for raising awareness about social issues, including maternal health. In Makurdi Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, where maternal health challenges remain a concern, television serves as a powerful medium for educating the public on pregnancy, childbirth, and related healthcare services (Ali et al., 2023). Maternal health campaigns on television can provide critical information on safe delivery practices, post-natal care, and the importance of prenatal visits to health facilities. Through public service announcements, expert interviews, and community engagement programs, television campaigns can change public perceptions, reduce maternal mortality rates, and encourage women to seek proper healthcare (Nuru et al., 2024). However, the effectiveness of television campaigns in raising awareness and changing attitudes toward maternal health in Makurdi LGA is not yet fully understood. This study seeks to explore the impact of television campaigns on maternal health awareness in the region, examining how these campaigns influence knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors concerning maternal health.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While maternal health remains a significant issue in Makurdi LGA, there is limited empirical evidence on the effectiveness of television campaigns in raising awareness and improving health outcomes. Despite the availability of television campaigns aimed at educating the public on safe motherhood, many women in the region continue to face challenges such as lack of access to quality healthcare, poor health literacy, and cultural barriers that hinder the adoption of recommended health practices. The question arises whether television campaigns have been successful in improving maternal health awareness and whether the messages conveyed are reaching the intended audience effectively. This study aims to address this gap by examining the extent to which television campaigns impact maternal health awareness in Makurdi LGA, and by providing recommendations for improving the effectiveness of these campaigns.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant in that it provides insights into the role of television as a tool for improving maternal health awareness in Makurdi LGA. By evaluating the effectiveness of television campaigns, the findings will inform health communication strategies aimed at reducing maternal mortality and improving the health of women in the region. Additionally, the study will contribute to the broader discourse on the use of mass media for public health education, offering lessons that can be applied in other regions of Nigeria and beyond.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus specifically on the impact of television campaigns on maternal health awareness in Makurdi LGA, Benue State. It is limited to television broadcasts and does not consider other forms of media or healthcare delivery methods.
